A couple of decades ago my husband and I went through a midlife crisis and moved to the country. The only parts of this move that were not an unmitigated disaster were: 1) our chickens and 2) the willow headboard Mike built for us from branches he took from our woods. I absolutely loved it and the style he chose defined classic country. What I love about this headboard is the wonderfully contemporary feeling it has. The linear design of the twigs combined with the neutral bedding and leather accents create a simple clean and strikingly modern aesthetic.
Felt it. Hand-stitched felt bucks the conventional thinking of what a headboard needs to be made of. The warm neutrals of this piece mirror the other earthy textures designer Jessica Helgerson used in the rest of the home.
Allow the patterned headboard to be the star of the bedscape. Keep the duvet and shams solid and with minimal detailing like this hotel-style bedding and use a minimal amount of coordinating throw pillows. Coordinate with a bed skirt or a bed platform to create continuity. Pay attention to the way the pattern relates to the headboard′s shape. Here the vertical stripes emphasize the point at the top of the headboard. Note the way the stripes on the bed skirt and the headboard align.
