A couple of decades ago my husband and I went through a midlife crisis and moved to the country. The only parts of this move that were not an unmitigated disaster were: 1) our chickens and 2) the willow headboard Mike built for us from branches he took from our woods. I absolutely loved it and the style he chose defined classic country. What I love about this headboard is the wonderfully contemporary feeling it has. The linear design of the twigs combined with the neutral bedding and leather accents create a simple clean and strikingly modern aesthetic.
Sometimes a bed placed in the center of a room takes up too much space or just doesn′t look right — but simply shoving the bed into a corner can be awkward too. Designer Carla Aston came up with a great solution while designing a teenager′s room for a show house: Customized dual headboards on an upholstered frame keep the bed tucked neatly and comfortably in the corner while creating a casual lounge-style space.
You don′t have to use fabric to execute this idea. At the Upward Bound House interior designer Vanessa De Vargas used wallpaper to create the look of an extended headboard. You can also use a special traditional fabric. Design Sponge blogger Grace Bonney helped educate the masses about traditional Mexican Otomi embroidery with her famous DIY headboard.
